About Us

St. Joseph Hospital’s Behavioral Health Inpatient Center is licensed by the Washington State Department of Health and certified by the Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse and the Washington State Division of Mental Health. Referrals are accepted from medical, legal and mental health professionals, community agencies, employers, family members and clergy. Self-referrals are accepted as well.

Who we are
We are the only inpatient unit for behavioral health clients in Whatcom County that offers acute stabilization, treatment and referral services, including voluntary admissions, involuntary commitments and lesser restrictive alternatives.

We are also the only inpatient psychiatric co-occurring model outside of Seattle. This model of treatment keeps care from becoming fragmented and is the future of behavioral health and chemical dependency treatment.
 

Our Services
The Behavioral Health Inpatient Center is comprised of two units.
 
Intensive/Geri Psychiatric Program

This unit treats adults on a voluntary or involuntary basis, who present with an acute psychiatric illness or an age-related psychiatric illness. Services include: 

  • Psychiatric assessment, evaluation and treatment
  • Occupational and recreational therapy assessment
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Social work assessment
  • Discharge planning
Multi-track Psychiatric Program 

This unit provides psychiatric and chemical dependency services to voluntary adult patients. Services include: 

  • Medical detoxification
  • Chemical dependency assessment, evaluation and treatment
  • Psychiatric assessment, evaluation and treatment
  • Co-occurring psychiatric treatment
  • Family assessment and education
  • Social work assessment
  • Discharge planning

Payment Options
The Behavioral Health Inpatient Center accepts most private insurance, along with Medicare/Medicaid. Washington State Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) low-income funds are available for people who need financial assistance for chemical dependency treatment.
