Childbirth Center
Visitor Guidelines
Dear Friends and Family of the New Mother:
In order for us to provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment for
our new mothers and babies, while still retaining a family friendly
atmosphere, we ask for your help with the following policies. These
guidelines are supportive of mothers and newborns, understanding that they
have just been through a physically challenging event and often need time to
recover, bond and rest.
For Laboring Mothers
- All visitors please sign in and out at the front desk. The
childbirth center is a secured unit.
- We ask that you limit support members in the labor room at any one
time to five persons (age 12 and over).
- The primary support person (labor coach) will be identified by the
patient and is not considered a visitor and may visit at any time.
- Siblings under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult who is
solely responsible for meeting the children's needs. The labor coach
can't perform this dual role. We strongly discourage any children under
the age of 12 during labor.
- Please consider time of day when delivery occurred before planning
your visit. It may be best if you postpone your visit to the next day
for mothers who deliver after our 8:30 pm visiting hours.
- When an overnight induction of labor is planned, in the best interest
of our patient, we request that you stay at home until the mother is
actively laboring and she calls for her support members to come to the
hospital.
- If medical or security issues arrive or if the staff feel that the
number or conduct of visitors is interfering with the care of the
patient, staff will ask visitors to leave.
For Mothers After Delivery
- Please observe hospital visiting hours, which are 8:00 am to 8:30 pm
daily.
- All visitors please sign in and out at the front desk. On the second
floor, please check in at the nurse's station.
- Please, no children under the age of 12 visiting the new baby in the
hospital except for the baby's siblings.
- Please limit the overnight support person to one individual. This is a
critical time for the mother to rest and the newborn to bond.
- Please wash your hands before holding the newborn.
Lobby and Waiting Areas
- Out of consideration for the mother, newborn and other Childbirth
families, we ask that you maintain a calm, clean, quiet environment in
the waiting areas.
- Please respect the requests made to you by our receptionist and staff
as they have many responsibilities.
