St. Joseph Hospital’s Emergency Department has started major work on its
expansion. Below is some key information you need to know about the project:
Why is St. Joseph renovating the Emergency Department?
The current space was designed to treat 45,000 patients a year. St.
Joseph currently sees 57,000 emergency patients a year. The renovated
department will grow from 26 to 42 beds. The square footage will go from
13,000 square feet to 22,000 square feet.
What’s changing?
The Emergency Department is dividing into two distinct care areas -
Emergency Department Side A and Emergency Department Side B. Patients and
visitors will still use the same entrance. After the patient is triaged,
staff will escort him or her to the appropriate side.
- Side A will be used to treat trauma and critical patients.
- Side B will be used to treat more stable patients.
Will any services be interrupted?
No. There will be no interruption in any of the services the ED provides.
What’s the project’s timeline?
Construction will happen in two phases. The first phase will be complete
in spring 07 and the second phase will be complete in fall 07. As with any
construction project, unforeseen delays may occur. We will keep you informed
of any significant changes in the schedule.
