(650 nurses), St. Joseph Hospital is the second largest employer
in the county
- Average of 400 volunteers
- Established in Whatcom County in 1891; Main Campus at
present location since 1966, with major building projects in
1975, 1985, 1993, 1996, 2001-2003, 2005-2007
- South Campus occupies building space that was formerly St.
Luke's General Hospital
- Central Auxiliary members perform fundraising and service
projects to benefit the hospital

- Operated as a Catholic, not-for-profit, voluntary, private
institution - as opposed to a for-profit hospital or a
tax-supported public hospital
- St. Joseph Hospital is part of PeaceHealth, Bellevue,
Washington, which has hospitals and physician clinics in
Washington, Oregon and Alaska
- Directed by a 13-member Regional Board made up of Bellingham
and Whatcom County residents who serve voluntarily
- Fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), recognized as
the quality control standard bearer for the hospital field
- Licensed and inspected by the Washington State Department of
Social and Health Services (DSHS)

MAIN CAMPUS - An acute care facility with 24-hour
emergency care and trauma center. Located at Squalicum Parkway and
Ellis Street, off the Sunset/Mt. Baker Exit from I-5.

SOUTH CAMPUS - located at Chestnut and Ellis Streets, off
the Lakeway Drive exit from I-5. Behavioral Health Services,
Rehabilitation Services and several support departments are located
here.

- 2004 & 2006 Aster Awards - "Every Woman Tell a Woman"
advertising campaign took the top award in a national
competition for healthcare advertising. The 2006 campaign won a
bronze award for third place in its category. Both campaigns
were designed to raise awareness of heart disease in women. The
Aster Award is a national competition for healthcare
advertising.
