Mini-Strokes and Risks
A mini-stroke, or transient ischemic attack (TIA) has symptoms
that are similar to a stroke, but they last only a few minutes. Most symptoms of a TIA disappear within an hour, although they may
persist for up to 24 hours.
As such, it is easy to dismiss the impact of a TIA, however there is an increased risk of falling victim to an acute
stroke shortly (up to one month) after experiencing a TIA. In fact, recent studies suggest that
this risk is higher than previously thought, which makes the rapid application of preventive treatment all the more important.
TIAs are serious and should be evaluated urgently. Take precaution if you experience the
symptoms of TIA and take brain-saving action. Call your doctor, visit Urgent Care, or go to the Emergency Room
right away.
