Employee Assistance Program - References

The following are references from a few of HPN's Current Client Organizations:

Bellingham Cold Storage Company
Bellingham, Washington - Karen Hollingsworth, BCS Ed and Training Coordinator

Bellingham Cold Storage Co. has had a contract with the Employee Assistance Program since April 1, 1992.  We have been extremely satisfied with the helpfulness and responsiveness from all of the counselors on staff.  The BCS plant is a unionized organization and non-unionized for administrative personnel.  We have found that EAP is able to help counsel the Human Resources Department along with our employees on work-related problems at onset of issues, before they may become more serious and difficult. We are able to share potential problems in the strictest confidence and receive help and ideas on individual situations.  BCS relies on EAP. for employee training. Last winter they provided extensive training on use of “Probable Cause" urinary analysis.  Health Promotion Northwest has helped us attain a drug-free work environment. BCS will invite EAP to return this spring, 1999 for plant-wide classes on the EAP program and what EAP has to offer, as a refresher course.  BCS has witnessed first hand the EAP crisis intervention help and counseling. They were here to assist our night shift crew immediately for a very demanding situation. Our employees were grateful for their help and were able to work through their workplace strife.  The EAP staff and service is caring, timely, efficient, businesslike and professional.

SOCCO Forest Products
Sumas, Washington - Mark Hadley, Plant Manager

I am writing this letter of recommendation outlining the benefits SOCCO Forest Products has received since participating in your Employee Assistance Program and implementation of Drug Free Workplace policies:  1) Reduced employee turnover. 2) Fewer on and off the job injuries.  3) Better workplace moral.  4) Improved production levels and quality.  I have found the counseling services provided by HPN to be well managed and professional, with positive results for nearly all individuals referred.  The plant site training seminars have been well received by both my supervisory staff and production personnel. Overall, I am very pleased with the programs success and the positive input it has had for our company.

Ocean Kayak, Inc.
Ferndale, Washington - Janet Kloos, HR Manager

Health Promotion Northwest has been the Employee Assistance Program for Ocean Kayak for several years. I have had extensive contact with them in my current position as well as in past positions with other companies. HPN has always been a reliable resource for virtually any employee issue.  I have utilized them for supervisory training in a variety of areas such as drug-free workplace, sexual harassment, and communication skills. They have also been extremely helpful in processing tough termination’s and in crisis debriefing. I find their staff to be knowledgeable, professional, and caring. My employee referrals have overwhelmingly resulted in positive outcomes for both the employee and the company.  I highly recommend Health Promotion Northwest to any company considering an employee assistance program.

The Opportunity Council
Whatcom, Skagit & Island Counties - Charlene Schaumberg, SPHR, HR Manager

As a human resources manager I am familiar with the personal and professional challenges staff members face on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, I also see how some of these challenges affect their performance at work.  Some situations are more challenging than others, but the ability to provide staff with a reliable, confidential counseling service not only makes my job much easier, but allows me to be proactive by offering a tool to employees that I know will benefit them.  I recommend the staff of professionals at Health Promotion Northwest whenever appropriate because I have confidence in their ability to provide our employees with assistance which will enable them to deal more effectively with whatever challenge they are facing.
