A weekly meeting of the Tumor Board
Once a week, physicians from a range of
specialties and representatives from hospice, social services,
pharmacy, dietary, and nursing meet to discuss new cancer cases
diagnosed in Whatcom County. This allows the physician who is
coordinating the patient's treatment to gain input from many health
care professionals in a wide range of specialties. Patient names are withheld.
National
research suggests that quality of care is significantly improved as
a result of this type of review. For more information on this service, please
e-mail Shelly
Smits, Cancer Program
Specialist.
