St. Joseph Cancer Center - Clinical Trials Information

A Clinical Trial is a research study directed to arrive at better treatments for patients with a particular illness. Patients with a similar illness are enrolled in a carefully designed study to see the benefit of a particular treatment or intervention. Many of the treatments we use today in cancer care were validated through studies like these.

The oncologists at St. Joseph Cancer Center and Madrona Medical Group serve as investigators in clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute to advance the understanding and treatment of cancer. When applicable, you may be offered participation in one of these trials. This is entirely optional. Your decision regarding participation in a trial will not affect your care. If you are a candidate, the oncologist will identify this at your office visit. Once this is done, a clinical research nurse will meet with you to explain the clinical trial, its goals, and obtain your informed consent.

The Cancer Center participates in the following cooperative research groups:

Clinical Trials Support Unit (CTSU)
Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)
National Surgical Adjuvant Breast & Bowel Project (NSABP)
Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)
Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG)
