Adult Day Services

St. Joseph Hospital Adult Day HealthSt. Joseph Hospital Adult Day Health is a community-based day program designed to meet the needs of adults with chronic illness and/or disability.  The primary focus of our program is to restore or maintain each participant's level of independence to enable them to remain in the community for as long as it is in their and their family's best interest.

Health care team 
Registered nurses monitor the general health of each participant whether he or she is dealing with the effects of a stroke, diabetes, heart disease, depression, memory loss or other chronic illness or disability.

Our health care team provides:

  • Nursing assessments and treatments, medication assistance, foot care and diabetic management
  • Speech therapy, hearing assistance and dental hygiene services
  • Coordination of care with physicians, community resources and family members


Occupational therapy
 
Licensed therapists help people with a variety of physical abilities improve their strength and mobility through:

  • Individual assessments and therapies
  • Exercise and strengthening programs
  • Balance and ambulation programs
  • Stationary bicycle program

Activity staff focuses on providing a variety of opportunities that bring enjoyment and meaning to each day. Activities include: art, music, cards, games, hot lunch, special interest groups, spirituality and friendship groups.

Specialized dementia program 
A program designed to meet the unique needs of adults with memory disorders including Alzheimer's Disease.

Respite for caregivers
Adult Day Health supports family members by offering them:

Caregiver support groups:

Open to all members of the community, this group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month. Both are held at St. Joseph's South Campus at 809 E. Chestnut from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. The second Tuesday of the month meeting features a guest speaker and is held in the Rehab Conference Room. Program hours: Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Extended hours available.
Transportation:  WTA Specialized Transportation is available.

Informational Meetings: Both family and professional caregivers are invited to attend informational meetings to learn more about Adult Day Health Services. Adult Day Health is a day program providing nursing services, occupational therapy and activities for adults with physical and/or cognitive challenges.
