Continuous Improvement
A Personal Reflection by John Haughom
"Continuous improvement is in fact a big part
of PeaceHealth’s culture and has been for a number of years. I’m
very excited about the fact that in recent years, care providers
across PeaceHealth are recognizing that it is their
responsibility to continuously and aggressively improve the
quality and safety of the care we provide to the patients we
serve.
"Continuous improvement at PeaceHealth is
personified when caregivers across the organization see it as
our responsibility to constantly strive to improve the quality,
safety and efficiency of the care we provide the patients and
families that we serve every day.
“It’s imperative that leaders across PeaceHealth
recognize that they have to be the flag bearers.
“There is no doubt that it takes courage to lead
continuous improvement because sometimes you have to do things
in a different way—and doing things in a different way isn’t
always popular with everyone at PeaceHealth. I like the term
‘pursuit of continuous improvement’ because it implies that
we’re relentless. We never give up. We strive to make things
better for those we serve.
“The end result is that the quality, safety,
affordability and access to care are constantly improved. We owe
this to our patients as part of our promise.”
