Compassion

Compassion is the humane quality of understanding the struggles and suffering of others. It is the ability to feel with another and, even more basically, the ability to be with another in their situation, to be fully present. Compassion is neither sentiment nor pity, but it motivates us to acts of justice and works of mercy.

Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity because it requires the keen awareness of the interdependence of all things. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment.
