Therapy: |
Inpatient Therapy
Acute Care
(Critical Access Hospital) |
Generally through daily treatments.
With goal of optimizing recovery from orthopedic injury or surgery,
neurological conditions and geriatric-related health challenges.
Therapy services assist patients to leave the hospital setting as
quickly as possible and also assist with recommendations for
additional follow-up therapy in the Transitional Care Unit, home
health or outpatient settings. |
Transitional Care
(29 bed skilled
nursing facility)
Although a separate facility,
the Transitional Care Unit
is located within Ketchikan
General Hospital building. |
Up to five times a week.
Therapy goals at this level consist of:
- Helping the patient through a variety of skilled treatments
such as balance and ambulation training, activities of daily
living training, equipment recommendations, and cognitive or
communication training. Therapists also assist with
recommendations for caregiver assistance needed upon discharge
and whether follow-up services through home health or outpatient
settings are appropriate. Or,
- Assisting patients who stay in the Transitional Care Unit
long term to optimize recovery and/or use compensatory
strategies to participate with functional daily living
activities, eating, communication, and mobility,

Home Health
|
Usually 1-3 times per week treatment
plan.
Goal is to optimize functional mobility and activities within the home setting and prepare for community reentry, while promoting home safety for the patient and caregiver(s). They also help determine if the patient would benefit from Outpatient Therapy.

| Outpatient Clinic
|
There are a variety of outpatient possibilities:
- Optimize recovery and/or compensatory strategies from the effects of neurological
conditions (stroke); orthopedic conditions (arthritis); athletic injuries; chronic pain; cardiac rehab, phases 3 & 4; degenerative diseases and traumatic brain injury.
- Prepare for, rehabilitate from, postpone or eliminate the need for orthopedic surgery.
- Assess and access to orthotics or adaptive equipment.
- Access to employment or community work reentry with specialized pre-work and work site screenings. Evaluate physical capacity or ergonomic-related problems.
- Facilitate wound care healing.
- Specialized equipment fitting evaluations (wheelchair or power-operated
vehicles).
- Community service - wellness and work injury prevention education.
- Physical fitness for Ketchikan General
Hospital employees with access to gym & equipment.
