Knowledge is Power

There are approximately 5,000 diabetics in Whatcom County. Diabetes is a serious disease that, if not properly controlled, can cause blindness, amputation, heart and kidney failure, and even death. A person who has diabetes must constantly control their disease on a day-to-day basis through blood glucose monitoring, diet, exercise, and proper medication. We hope to reach as many diabetics as possibly in our county and spread knowledge and understanding about diabetes.

The Bellingham Diabetes Support Group is free to all who attend. Meetings last about an hour and a half. The first half of the class is focused on support. There will be interactive games, sharing, and motivational speaking. The second half of the class will be focused on knowledge. A guest speaker from the health community will come and present on a specific health topic related to diabetes. The presentation will last about 45 minutes with a question and answer section at the end.

For more information, please email the Michael Lynch who facilitates these meetings.
