Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a complex and devastating problem which requires an expert team of professionals to enhance a patient's abilities on physical and emotional levels. The Oregon Rehabilitation Center offers the clinical, technical, and professional resources necessary to maximize the spinal cord patient's progress toward a more independent and productive life. Our program emphasizes a patient- and family-centered team approach focusing on education, training, and supported practice.

Program Objectives

The patient's personal recovery goals are identified and an individualized treatment plan is developed. Measurable goals will be generated in the following areas:

  • Bowel and bladder function

  • Activities of daily living

  • Transfer and mobility skills

  • Equipment evaluation and wheelchair fitting

  • Wheelchair skills

  • Home accessibility evaluation

  • Use of adaptive devices

  • Education and training in medical complications and management of SCI

  • Community mobility, resources, and re-entry

  • Emotional support and counseling for adjustment issues
