Critically ill patients are transferred to Sacred Heart’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). ICU patients have their own care team and the nurse-to-patient ratio for some complex cases is one-to-one. A board-certified Intensivist (a doctor specializing in critical patient care) is available or on call 24/7. The ICU, which includes a special unit for surgical patients, is located immediately above the surgical floor to provide direct patient access. The design of the ICU includes private patient rooms, windows between rooms for continuous patient monitoring, and medication/supply corridors to minimize patient disruption. Landscaped courtyards, natural light and comfortable family lounges provide a soothing, healing environment for patients and family members.
