Question:
What’s the difference between Sacred Heart Medical Center and PeaceHealth?

Answer: PeaceHealth Oregon Region is a non-profit, locally governed, spiritually-based health care system based in Eugene, Oregon. It is comprised of the following hospitals and medical groups:

Sacred Heart Medical Center is a 432-bed regional tertiary medical center and Level II trauma center located on Hilyard Street in Eugene, next to the University of Oregon.

Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend is currently under construction in the Gateway area of Springfield. It is set to open in August 2008.

Please note that we are NOT: PeaceHealth Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, RiverBend Hospital, Sacred Heart General Hospital, or part of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center or Triad.

PeaceHealth Medical Group is a multi-specialty group practice with more than 130 physicians and more than 600 staff members with clinic locations in Eugene-Springfield and Junction City.

Cottage Grove Community Hospital is a critical access hospital with 11 beds and an emergency department, rehabilitation services, laboratory and radiology services.

South Lane Medical Group is a 14-member group (pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine and emergency medicine) with approximately 70 staff members. It is located within the Cottage Grove Community Hospital and also has a clinic in Creswell.

The PeaceHealth Oregon Region is part of the PeaceHealth system, with offices in Bellevue, Washington, and medical facilities in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon.

Each local hospital and medical group has its own corresponding logo, which we are happy to provide to you in electronic format. When you need to use a logo for your news story, we ask that you please use the specific logo for each local group, including the Sacred Heart Medical Center logo, instead of the PeaceHealth logo. That logo refers to the entire system, not our local medical facilities.

Eugene is the state's second-largest population center with more than 140,000 residents. More than 330,000 people live in Lane County, Sacred Heart Medical Center's primary service area. PeaceHealth is the area's largest private employer, with more than 4,240 employees.

Built in 1924, the hospital was purchased by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Newark (today, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace) and opened as Sacred Heart General Hospital on July 7, 1936. Sacred Heart provides a broad range of services from the Prenatal Clinic for expectant mothers, to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for premature infants, to the Center for Senior Health for older adults. Other services -- including the Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute and the Oregon Rehabilitation Center -- provide needed patient care while serving as important health resources in the community.
