Blood, drugs and surgical supplies will move at speeds of 25 feet per second - about 17 miles per hour - propelled by compressed air and guided by bar-code technology.

FUN FACTS
  • The hospital and OHVI buildings are more than two football fields long and almost a football field wide.
  • The square footage of the hospital is equal to the area of 23 football fields.
  • All the hospital elevators stacked on top of one another would be twice the height of the Empire State Building.
  • The new cafeteria kitchen can produce 48 pans of lasagna simultaneously. This equals 432 portions. 
  • We are building the city of Springfield’s first parking structures at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
  • As of November 2007, we have recycled more than 1,500 tons of construction materials/waste.
CONSTRUCTION FACTS
  • Sacred Heart at RiverBend was Oregon’s largest construction project in 2006, according to the Portland Daily Journal of Commerce.
  • The hospital has 78,452 cubic yards of concrete, equal to 9,807 concrete trucks.
  • The hospital has 175,235 square feet of exterior brick, or 1,436,352 bricks.
  • The hospital will use 75,685 sheets of drywall.
  • The hospital has 53.6 miles of pipe. 
  • There are more than 163 miles of electrical wire in the hospital, not including telephone or data wire.
  • Phase I of the project is projected to utilize more than 2.3 million person-hours of field labor over the course of the project. As of November 2007, we have logged more than 2.25 million person-hours on the project.
  • The number of people working on the project peaked at 655 trade workers per day in October 2007.
  • Renewal of PeaceHealth's original campus, Sacred Heart Medical Center, University District will begin shortly after RiverBend opens. The University District campus will include a 24-hour emergency department, specialty care at several centers of excellence, 104 inpatient beds and an intensive care unit.
