Destination Medical Center

The design of Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, and the entire RiverBend campus, has blended the best of hospitality and health care design to create a place that will promote healing and wellness, and lift the spirits of patients, employees and future residents.

With input from a world-renowned hospitality architect, we have created a health and wellness destination, complete with private rooms with spectacular views and a two-story atrium in the lobby to allow natural light into the interior of the building along with a fireplace to provide a warm lodge hearth-type atmosphere to help reduce stress. Rooftop gardens provide an additional close up view of nature for the benefit of our patients and their families.

The private patient rooms are designed to maximize access to the site’s spectacular views of the McKenzie River, tree groves, hills, and gardens – which research shows helps improve patient outcomes. RiverBend also features nearly 3 miles of on- and off-street bike and pedestrian paths, including a ˝-mile long, 12-foot wide, multi-use trail along the site’s McKenzie River frontage.

Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend is angled to face upriver, and is nestled in a grove of trees with large meadow areas both in front and adjacent to the river. Inside the hospital, a long window framed corridor known as the “meadow walk” provides views of the meadow and healing gardens at the hospital entrance. Outside, rather than using a rigid grid system, roadways are connected but curved and aligned to take advantage of the site’s unique riverfront location and natural features.

In the future, RiverBend will become a destination community (much like a resort), with the hospital as its cornerstone, as the land around it is developed with complementary residential and commercial uses.
