| Clinical Breast Exam
A clinical breast exam (CBE) is a physical examination of the breast by
a doctor or healthcare provider. The exam involves checking the look and
feel of the breasts and underarms for any changes. The breasts can be
checked while a woman is sitting up and/or lying down.
Clinical breast exams and breast self exams are important methods of
early breast cancer detection and should be performed along with mammograms.
Together these exams provide a more complete breast cancer screening.
Women between the ages of 20 and 39 should have a CBE at least every
three years. After age 40, you should schedule a CBE with a mammogram every
year.
