Internship - College


Responsibilities of all students

  • Follow the process for Clinical Experiences placement as required by PeaceHealth:
    • complete the necessary paperwork, clearly and thoroughly
    • fulfill all of the necessary requirements
    • follow-through with your placement contact person
  • Arrive for your experience on time, properly attired and prepared for your experience. Check in at the main desk of the department you have been assigned. Be prepared to present your contact person information to staff in order for them to verify approval for the Student Experience.
  • Abide by all applicable PeaceHealth rules, regulations, policies, and procedures for Student Experiences including the security, confidentiality, and privacy of information as identified in the orientation materials.
  • Report any injuries or exposures immediately to the PeaceHealth supervisor responsible in your area and to your instructor/advisor.
  • Demonstrate the PeaceHealth behavioral expectations for staff, volunteers and students with every interaction while on site.
  • Adhere to the PeaceHealth Mission, Values and Promise.

Interview

Description: Conduct a person-to-person interview with a PeaceHealth employee.  You can take a picture of the interviewee with their permission  

Purpose: Gives you an opportunity to explore careers in healthcare

Duration: Maximum 30-minutes.

Requirements:

  • Write up a set of questions
  • Make arrangements with your instructor; do not contact PeaceHealth first
  • You don't have to complete any paperwork
  • Dress in appropriate attire
  • Prepare to be on site no less than 5 minutes prior to the agreed time

Job Shadow

Description: Follow and observe a staff member during their work hours. 

Purpose: Gain clearer insight into healthcare career opportunities.

Duration: One day, maximum of 4 hours.

Clinical Rotation - College

Description: Rotating through a variety of health care sites/departments.

Purpose: To practice hands-on skills under the direct supervision of a staff member or instructor. 

Duration: Varies by school. Done during class time.

Clinical Rotation - High School

Description:  Rotating through a maximum of 3 healthcare sites/departments.  These sites would include 1 general nursing unit, 1 ancillary department (such as medical records, radiology, etc) and 1 specialty unit (such as surgery, ICU, ED, etc).

Purpose:  To gain a deeper insight into healthcare career opportunities.

Duration:  Varies by school.  Done during class time.

Internship - High School

Description: Open to advanced Health Career students only. Students work at one site with an employee preceptor. 

Purpose: To provide an opportunity to focus on career specific knowledge and learn skills particular to that specialty. 

Duration: 20 hours maximum.

Internship - College

Description: Student works with a designated staff preceptor. 

Purpose: To provide an opportunity to focus on career specific knowledge and learn skills particular to that specialty and obtain necessary clinical hour requirements for course completion.

Duration: Varies by school, student, and site. They may occur during regular school hours, after school, weekends and holidays.
